[IMail Forum] Using a Gateway

We just started using a pair of gateway servers on our network, and discovered that traffic normally considered internal is being bounced through the gateway.  Does anyone know what might cause this, or how to prevent it?  I was under the impression internal mail never left the server under any circumstance...
