Hey, I think those props are enough for me. Now, be off with you. :)))

I'd phrase it like this: we think it's the best Windows choice when
Unix/Linux is not a _mandate_. I can assure you that plenty of shops
that are fully open to *nix, with definite *nix skills in-house, still
use IMail as mailbox server--though it's true that _more_ IMail
installations are in shops with various degrees of multiplatform
reluctance and/or illiteracy, though usually not outright hostility
(we leave that to the other side, don't we?).
We support a wide variety of mail server platforms, from Exchange to
Sendmail, depending on a client's incumbent platform experience,
budget, executive and technical requirements, all that jazz. For any
shop that is not completely closed to the idea of Windows on the
server side and whose requirements mesh with IMail/Declude's
per-domain and per-user tweakability, we push for IMail first;
likewise for a small shop with limited administrative budget and
skills. Until IMail 8, any IMail recommendation for a largish
installation was bundled with another front-end MX (Windows or *nix);
we now trust IMail much more in the MX role, but it's still safer to
present it solely mailbox server to show you know the rules of the
game.
For you, though, none of these "intercultural" decisions need be made.
I appreciate that you could move to a no-materials-cost setup, but
without knowing what "slush fund" you dip into for your pro-bono work,
it's not for me to say whether this alone is a compelling reason to
change over. Speaking purely of function, IMail's listserv is no match
for MailMan or other no-cost alternatives, so that's one area where
people may outright thank you for the changeover. In the other areas,
if people are satisfied with performance and configurability now, it's
hard for me to believe that their enthusiasm will skyrocket with the
all-new setup you describe. Declude, for example, is definitely
best-of-breed anti-virus and anti-spam software.
Hope this helps a little.
