The bigger question is whether publishing a NIC HCL would be good or bad for business. I think it would be very good, as it shows that the vendor's labs are thorough. For a comparative study, I have an eSafe installation in pilot at a client and discovered some instability today. Speaking with an engineer revealed that their explicit prohibition (as in a product- won't-install-at-all-if-bad-NIC-manufacturer-detected prohibition!) of RealTek and D-Link cards (both obvious) also applied to the SMC which I had stuck in the box and which apparently uses a similar chipset per their research.
