We experienced a small (and I believe known) problem with Externalizer where if the password contained certain characters, it would be unable to translate them. Out of the 600 something users we externalized, we had to call about a dozen or so people to reset their passwords.
Be sure to use the same SQL login name to run Externalizer as you do when you connect to the db from Imail. We ran into some problems with SQL permissions if you use different users to create/access the data. That means, AFAIK, finding a way to pull the existing passwords, in clear text, out of the registry. Extracting the users from the registry hive poses no problem, but obviously the passwords are hashed - so my question is, is there any tool, utility or process which would allow us to unhash the passwords or by any other means, migrate the users, with passwords intact, to an external SQL database?
