There is another, similar, adage - that a house divided against itself cannot stand. Variations on the theme are commonplace, which lends weight to the chances of it being true.
While hating to seem the dittohead, I share the list's prevalent scepticism of the merits of a forum if the "improvements" really are as facile and limited as "we can use emoticons on a forum".
