We host a lot of zones on our DNS servers for clients. Some of them are asking for
mail forwarding-- mail sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED] gets forwarded to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Before anyone says set up a simple forward or alias, please read on.
I'd like to provide this service, but I don't want to set up a mail domain for each
user. I also can't set up a single mail domain and simply add the user domains I want
to support to the domain alias field-- that works great, until you get two people who
want the same alias name ([EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]).
In a former life, I worked in an organization with a UNIX box that supported N domains
on one mail domain; the server looked at the TO address in each mail message, then
looked at a text file to see if the [EMAIL PROTECTED] was listed there. If so, it
would forward the message to the associated forward address. Example:
Text File:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]
This way, we only needed one mail domain. It was also very easy to programatically
add new user/forward associations to the text file.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to do this with iMail?
