Per se, nothing at all - but I would venture that most people don't have to deal with the volume of messages you do. ;) Personally, I prefer to handle mail the way Outlook, OE, Eudora and, well, practically every other mail client behaves - all messages to all mailboxes are treated as a single entity to which rules can be applied. I set up some rules - messages from mailing lists go to relevant folders, messages from certain people go to relevant folders unless certain escape conditions are met. But I want all messages to go into one folder, the inbox, unless otherwise treated by a rule, and I want to be able to hit one send-and-receive button to get all my messages. That's just the way I prefer to work, because I generally don't care what mail address an e-mail was sent to me on - the sender and the content are far more important. Other users, yourself included, feel differently, and that's fine; I don't think it would be impossible to work into Thunderbird's architecture a facility that allowed you to choose, when adding a new mail account, whether the mail address being added would be added to the shared inbox, or would be created with its own inbox. That would keep everyone happy, IMO, while adding another layer of configurability to Thunderbird's already excellent featureset.
