I also put together a rather lengthy list of feature requests. I did hear
anything back on them either, like you I feel they are disappearing into a
black hole somewhere.

I had some of the same requests you did, but one of my big ones, was because
of the amount of users we have every time we need to open a users properties
we have to enumerate the users folder. That can take a long time, especially
if that user has a name that starts toward the end of the alphabet. Instead
of just enumerating the users under the users directory have the ability to
create subfolders (Kind of Like OU's) under the users folder so you can
place folks in folders by the starting letter of their username. This would
help with the problem greatly.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Fwd: Feature Requests

Hi guys,

Maybe my mail i wrote to ipswitch might be interesting for you. Please give
me some
feedback, if some of my feature requests are important to you too.

------------------------------------------------
First i like to ask, if i have a chance to get a list with previous feature
requests. I
like to know, if any feature request will be implemented in one of the next
releases.

I have the feeling that the feature request are disapearing in a black hole
for ever and
ever.

Here are some new feature requests:

1. ) Killer WebMail displays the Date and Time in the us format only. It
should be possible the
display the date and time in the local format, set by the Date/time format
of the
operating system.

2.) The kill list works globally. It should work like the other anti-spam
tools: It should
be possible to switch it on or off for every domain.

3.) All helpfiles of the WebMail (Classic and Killer) are not localized.
This should be
changed.

4.) IMail logs into files only. It should be possible, that IMail can log
his data into a
database. A ODBC/ADO Datasource as the log target should be possible. A
analysis of the
logs via a database is much more simpler as a silly parsing in text files.
This is also
very slow. Actually we're copying the logs in a database on a weekly base.
It might be
very nice, if IMail could to this native.

Now i will repeat some important feature request made ages ago (This and
last year...).
Please provide me some infos, if a feature will be implemented or not.
Somebody should know that, i think ;-)

1.) The kill list (file kill.lst) should moved to a different directory.
The goal is,
that the application directory should not contain any data. A good location
might be the
data directory of the 'main' host. This means, the same location like the
other anti spam
files.

2.) Spool and Log-files are stored in the same directory. This is wrong. We
would like to
have a separate log folder.

3.) To reread updated anti spam files, some services must be restarted. We
do that 5-7
times a day. The mail server is unavailable for a very short time, but long
enough to get
into troubles. i'm asking for a small tool to reread the anti spam files
instead of restarting the
services. WebMail is able to this, so it should be possible from the command
line.

4.) The URL Filter works for html formatted mails only. It should be
available for plain
text mails also. We have to add domains in the url filter *AND* in the
phrase filter.
We could save a lot work, if the url filter is independed of the mail
format.

5.) The localized packages of the killer webmail is only available via your
setup program.
I realized, that the killer webMmil uses the same versions of the localized
strings like
the classic webmail. In fact, they are equal, but the strings of the killer
WebMail are more updated,
fortunately the german translation is much better now.
Please provide a link for downloading the latest versions of the translated
files. Please add a version number also.

6.) It is not possible to create a program alias via WebMail. This should be
changed.

7.) Since WebMail 8.0x some default personal settings of a user are changed,
eg. If a sent
mail will be stored in the "send" folder or not. Every user has to change
the settings
manually. This generated tons of support calls. Please provide a solution to
do 'bulk
changes' for every domain and globaly.

8.) The daily log does not include the mails refused by the kill list. I
have to count all
"unacceptable mail address" entries. Silly, isn't it.

9.) This last feature request is a big one: Like other mail systems, IMail
is not able to
act as a 'hot standby server'. This means, a second mail server acts as a
'mirror',
always synchronized with the main server. This feature might be the step
into major
companies and could generate more business. We do a sync (Files and
Registry) with 'home
made' tools now.

Cheers and have a good day
