Len,

While you are technically correct, I was trying to help out by being
specific to his situation (seeing as his current mx for
pacificdatavision.com does point to imail.pacifidatavision.com). If he
uses that as his MX, then if he ever has to change the IP, he only
changes it once. You and I both know the details of how this works and
it is easy for you and me, but since he was also asking what you and I
look at as a very easy thing to do, I thought I'd be nice and give him a
very direct, specific answer. Just realize that some people's replies
are not to be looked upon as stuff to write documentation from, but in
context.

That said, Len is perfectly correct. Then again, so am I.

DNS isn't (that) rigid.

The data field of an MX record can by _any_ FQDN, as long as the FQDN
has an A record that resolves to the IP of an MTA.

In the Imail domain alias situation, there is no need for nor should
there ever be any CNAMEs / aliases used in MX data fields (iow, MX data
field must be a canonical hostname).
