This is getting somewhat humorous.... Ipswitch shot themselves in the foot with this one. By not selling the base product and raising this ruckus, they've encouraged _everyone_, both potential groupware customers and base product customers, to evaluate the entire market of available solutions...comparing notes on their own forum.
For my own part, I've been pleasantly surprised at the number of less expensive products that are more full featured. In the past it had been easier to stay with the current mail system rather than migrate to a new one. Now we've had time to automate our account setup processes, which will make it much less painful to switch to a new system. With many competing products having features IMail lacks, perhaps they've done everyone a favor in making this announcement. The end result is that even if Ipswitch product management realizes their disastrous mistake, wises up, and recants, continuing to offer the base product, many customers are now looking elsewhere that may not have otherwise. So no matter what happens, Ipswitch will lose sales. Sounds like some product managers will soon be looking for a new job.
