Yes, If the service is actually crashing I would expect to see orphaned "D" and "T" files for the messages that were coming in when it crashed...Usually not a problem as the sending MTA would have resent them at a later time if it was doing its job properly..

Dang typo, sorry! It should have said "orphaned" SMD files.

It seems when ours was doing that there were normally orphaned DMD files
from that day that never did get processed.

Is the service actually stopping? I have seen, more than a few times, where
2K3 will report a service down when it really wasn't...

Interestingly, This was a fresh install of 8.13 and then upgraded to 8.14
yesterday. I get the errors under both versions. This is a new machine
that has been burned in running under Win2K Server.

Anyone else seen this?

I was getting a bunch of those until I updated to 8.13. The cause was speculation with a few possible recommended things that I fixed or changed, which I can't remember now, but the problem remained.

Just before updating to 8.13 I started having some hard drive issues so
backed up everything, changed drives, reinstalled and then upgraded. Was
a
hassle but no more errors like that.
