Yet another problem is that spammers can now do much more damage to a website they are trying to DDoS. They can just send out spam with the URL of the website in it.
It's a shame to see Lycos getting sucked into something like this.
The saving "grace" for what Lycos is describing may be...
"...The list of sites that the screensaver will target is taken from real-time blacklists generated by organisations such as Spamcop. To limit the chance of mistakes being made, Lycos is using people to ensure that the sites are selling spam goods..."
