Hi,

Try also "the Bat!" as an alternate mail client. It's perfect and costs only 50 
dollars.

"The Bat!" is able to download headers only. I can also set a limit for Mails. 
Let's say
"download only mails less than 100k".

I will never use outlook again ;-)
