Yes we have heard of this, if anyone adds a Plaxo contact to their email it
will grab all of their email addresses that they've sent email to and use
them for spam distribution. One of our clients added a friend that was using
Plaxo contacts and had all kinds of problems after accepting his Plaxo
contact info. If I remember correctly his issue was so bad that he did an
FDisk and reinstall, which could have been an overkill or another issue.
This client is not totally up to speed with PC knowledge, but is a really
nice person.

All,

I am not sure how on-topic this is, but would appreciate your feedback. Has
anyone out there had any significant experience with a company called Plaxo?
I am always getting these e-mails from various domains that actually
originate from Plaxo.Com. I checked out their website, and they purport to
be a legit business that allows people to share contact information in the
form of online vCards.

The thing is, out of the dozens of e-mails I have received from alleged
Plaxo subscribers, I have never once gotten one from someone I actually
knew, or had any business with whatsoever. Their e-mails usually start out
something like, "Hi again, I noticed that I didn't get a response from my
last email to you. I'm using a new tool called Plaxo to update my address
book." However, I have no clue who these various individuals are, and am
wondering if this whole thing isn't just some giant phishing scam.

Should I start rejecting these things? Do they actually have any legitimate
users? Any idea if the company itself may be running a phishing scam, or if
they just have tons of subscribers who are abusing it? I noticed on their
website that they just signed some sort of marketing deal with a handful of
companies, most of whom I have never heard of. The one I had heard of has
long been on my blacklist for being a notorious spammer. Would appreciate
your feedback.
