Zul,

Any subject that has SPAM: anywhere in it, will be placed in the spam mailbox. So, THE SPAM: would match that rule, but SPAMMING: or SPAMMERS: will not.

Symantec Mail Security for SMTP detects the spam and prefixes the subject with SPAM: which the rule in Imail looks for. If we wanted to be extra careful, you could prefix the subject with any random combination of characters you can think of as long as the rule in Imail looks for that same string. But there is always the chance you may move something into the spam mailbox that just by chance has the same character string in the subject.

That is why the users should check it regularly.

Users all complained because they received their spam. So we don’t deliver it to their inbox. And those that don’t want to check webmail can set up their own rule in webmail to move all messages from the spam folder back to the main mailbox. I do that for myself….work’s beautifully.

Chris

Hi Christopher,

How to make sure that the global rule in IMail only moved those email that have the subject contains SPAM: to the spam folder, not THE SPAM:, or SPAMMING:, or SPAMMERS: ?

Subject: [IMail Forum] Spam Notifications

Hi all,

We use Symantec Mail Security to prefix the subject of any possible spam with SPAM:

We then have a global rule in Imail that states any email with a subject that contains SPAM: will be moved in a mailbox called SPAM which the users have to access via Webmail. This works great.

We run a batch job every night which uses the immsgexp.exe utility in the Imail folder to delete any messages in the spam mailbox older than 7 days. This also works great.

But, what I want to do is in the middle of a night, run some sort of batch file that checks if there are any messages in the spam mailbox, and if so, emails the user with a customised message reminding them to check their spam folder via Webmail.

Does anyone know if this can be done?

Thanks!!!
