Hi, I can see your side and I guess I also see why Ipswitch does it. I actually agree with Ipswitch and their approach. Ipswitch lets their gold resellers sell and support their product. They have their resellers sell the product for them. I have talked with our reseller more than I have ever spent on the phone with Ipswitch. It's the way they do their business. Someone on the list 60% of their sales come through from Ipswitch leads.
This value added service when I called the reseller told me about Declude and some other solutions for antivirus and spam. I don't think Ipswitch would have. Another way to look at it is you can either be a Dell or HP/Compaq. Company that has resellers pushing your product adding value added service or you can company direct sells and supports its users directly. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. The other thing I think ICS / Imail is not a $19.95 spy ware removal tool or 5 million email address for $29.95 it is Enterprise product and it should be marketed so. If one of the marketing techniques is to have gold partner email you then so be it. It is highly effective market technique as they sold me on it.
