I paid $500 for the propane tank, and the same company that fills it, sells it. They charged nothing for installation (will make it back on fill-ups).
I installed it myself. I'd guess about 4 hours. I have no idea what an electrician charges per hour, but the 100' of #6 UG was around $100. I tore up about $200 worth of sheet-rock pulling romex and paid a local $25 to dig the trench to bury the cable. Generac has installation services, but they probably retail the generator for a few grand more. Ask around. BTW, I have a Home Office, so I used some of the circuits for house lights, microwave, furnace, COFFEE POT and other essentials. If you are powering ONLY the machine room, there's far less work to do pulling wire. Bring a 60 AMP circuit from your main box to the transfer switch, some #6 from the generator, and wire up all the outlets for machines to one of the 12 breakers in the T-Switch. 2 hours tops in most installations. Other miscellaeny: Breakers (the t-switch doesn't come full) Breaker (for the main box) Conduit (I burried some under the driveway before the concrete was poured) Conduit (From the ground up to the side of the house) Control wire (you need 4x18guage UG if you want to bury the control wires) Car Battery (+/- $50) Spare Oil filters (+/- $10) Oil I'd guess under $1,500 using pros, unless it's a long way to the generator pad or you include landscaping, fences, etc. hth (And don't tell the Electricians Union!)
