Art is most likely using either MXGuard or Declude. With this type of
setup, you don't install the on-access scanner, just an on-demand scanner,
and MXGuard or Declude is called by Imail for every message so that the
incoming and outgoing emails are all scanned for viruses. This works
perfectly (and inexpensively) if you are looking for an email virus scanner.

If you also want to protect the actual server from viruses, you will need to
use a virus program that will allow you to exclude your spool and mailbox
directories. If an on-access scanner detects a virus in a mailbox, it will
delete the entire mailbox. If it detects a virus in the spool, it will
delete the message, leaving behind the Q.smd file for that message. The
Imail logs will not indicate what happened to the message. That is why
those two directories need to be excluded.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the program Art ?
