I don't know how I missed that. I searched for quite a while attempting to find documentation on it.
There were a few domains like rr.com and hotmail.com that were rejecting us because when the mail server would connect it would read thecashstore.com but the a record said mail.cottonwoodfinancial.com. I went ahead and swapped the 2 domains around in the registry, from the virtual001 to the main and that seemed to work for everything but AOL. They're saying that they don't accept mail from IPs that solicit junk or bulk mail. But I've talked to AOL postmasters who say that our IP isn't on any kind of blacklist or blocking list. So that's still unresolved. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Darin Cox Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2005 11:22 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] Changing Primary Host Names You're probably not getting an answer because your question is so general, and parts of it like changing the official host name have been covered a lot in the past...and are available on IMail's support site. See http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-19991007-DM01.htm There's no real justification to change the official hostname if you're retaining both domains, unless you just want to make it more "organized". However, that's not your issue with AOL and hotmail. All AOL requires is a valid Reverse DNS. It doesn't matter if RDNS returns a different hostname. I would suggest checking dnsstuff.com to see if you're on blacklists, or if there are other issues with your DNS. Otherwise, you should be contacting AOL/hotmail/etc. to find out from them if they are blocking you. What used to be the primary is thecashstore.com and we had cottonwoodfinancial.com as a virtual host without an IP for just a few accounts. But management decided to ditch thecashstore.com (which is the primary host for the server) and go to cottonwoodfinancial.com for the entire company. The problem I'm running into is some domains like aol and hotmail will not accept mail from us. When querying the mail server it still says thecashstore.com. Will there be any issues if I change the primary hostname in IMail Admin to cottonwoodfinancial.com? The main thing I'm worried about is thecashstore.com is tied to the main IP of the mail server, and cottonwoodfinancial.com is just listed as a virtual host on that IP. Thanks!
