Don't try to kid me that you think that someone using an IP in their
MX record has all of their other forward and reverse DNS set up
correctly.

don't try to put words in my mouth, nor claim to know what my thoughts are.

> An MTA that refuses to send our legit mail because "MX RDATA field
> is an IP" error is just stupid. but "my MX, my policies"

In my policy, such mail is no more "legit" than mail destined for an
MX hostname that doesn't exist

my users mail to their recipients is fully legit! and because the other end has a broken MX record, doesn't de-legitimize our msgs to their domain, nor give me any grounds to stop that legit mail.

the spread of bad practices by default.

No matter what I do, internet mails sucks, has sucked for years, will suck for many years. I have no pretension about un-sucking it.

On that note, have you decided
that 1.2.3.4 is a legitimate HELO hostname or sender domain, too?

incoming policies/objectives for unknown, very probably illegit incoming mail are totally different from my policies for my known, legit outgoing mail.

 I'm
curious, because we certainly have not. It's all part of the same
policy, IP <> hostname.

rejecting any MTA that says helo with an ip adress (or even ip-ad-dr-ss in its helo text is an excellent policy.

> welcome to internet. My job is my mail system, NOT their DNS
> screwups.

This "welcome to internet" garbage is growing mold, and your attempted
condescension is rancid with IMail inexperience. Must we have the
"welcome to internet" vs. "welcome to IMail" exchange every single
time?

If you don't like, don't repsoned.

> I never have. logging isn't expensive, and is excellent evidence if
> a dialogue ever arises with the other end for any reason

A "dialogue"? When would that happen?

when there is a complaint on their/our side, we investigate, "TRY" to open a dialog, armed with our detailed log data.

 You're delivering mail to them
in defiance of their breakage

I defy nothing, so don't quit claiming I do. That is a stale and moldy tactic on your part.

I/my MTA tries to deliver my users' legit mail to their legit correspondents. I will not "punish" that mail flow by interfering with delivery in order to educate, quixotically, the other side.

, so they'll _never_ contact _you_

so freaking what? If MY users can't send legit mail to their legit rcipients because of MY policies, MY users will very quickly contact me.
