Speaking of what is planned, are they ever planning to allow users to have
some kind of control over the spam filter? For example, to whitelist and
email address so it does not get blocked?

This is planned and being tested for the 8.2 release which is in Beta
right
now. For those of you on the beta you should see something on the Beta
forum
