This was one of many maddening shortcomings in Imail's pathetic webmail implementation that finally forced us to migrate to Merak. Our subject lines are sometimes long-- I've got one displayed in webmail right now that is 82 characters.
It's been a couple of months of largely mail server bliss since the server migration away from Imail, and in a few days I hope to post an "after-action report" on the great/good/mediocre in Merak for those evaluating other mail servers. In response to the topic I will say this--Merak's (IceWarp) webmail is very flexible, extremely fast, and rock stable. The full-fledged PHP webserver engine (bound to the IP of MY choice :-)) is a joy. No half-baked implementations here. By adding virtual hosts, you can even configure and host regular websites with it! (No 'off-loading' of images to IIS required to obtain tolerable webmail performance, either.) --Dev -----Original message----- From: Matti Haack [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Tue, 29 Mar 2005 08:58:09 -0800 To: Matrosity Tech Support [email protected] Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] subject line length > > I asked tech support that same question and some genius at ipswtich > > decided that was all it would display. > > No computer will ever need more than 640 kilobyte of internal memory > > So why do you need more then 39 Characters for a subject :o) > > Maybe even ipswitch will find out that they have to improve their > producta (let's wait and hope for the next version!)
