Thanks, Len ... but my IMGate box isn't new and I don't have much confidence
in its life, so I keep the IMail box as a backup MX. Hopefully I'll get a
little more in the budget next year for a new IMGate box.

mistake. with a front-end MX, remove the mailbox server from MX records.
This is my standard advice for all IMGate users. and if possible, block
access from internet to Imail port 25.

>I see that I have a lot of spam go directly to the secondary MX

All MX records get hit by abuse. Imail removed from MX records will still
get spam, but much less.

useless and counter-productive. Spammers will hit all 3 MXs, wasting more
of your bandwidth, with no advantage to you.

>To me the
>current batch of spam is looking at the last MX server to send too.

probably not, but some spammers may have realized that secondary MXs have
the dumb mistake of having less restrictive/no policies than the primary
MX, so the backup MX is a "trusted" open door.

>I need a backup MX

Probably not. backup MXs are highly over-rated. IMGate is more robust and
simpler than IMail.
