That makes sense about the DNS, but there are other hosting
parts to the equation.
If I wrote the script like you suggest would his admin
account have to have System Admin privileges?
Basically what I am tying to do is have a completely new
and separate host on the same server. Maybe the way to word it is can I
create a second local host?

IMail doesn't really care whether its a domain or
subdomain, it cares about hosts... which can be either.
If you add a host that is example.com, then email
in it would be [EMAIL PROTECTED]. If you add a
host that is subdomain.example.com, then the email in it would be [EMAIL PROTECTED].
So, if I understand correctly, you
want to create a web-based script that would allow him to create new hosts (and
admin IDs for them) in IMail as long as the host is a subdomain under his main
domain. If it were me, I would want the script to create the DNS subdomain
at the same time, so when he created it there would be no need for manual
intervention by me.

enough. I'm afraid only the system admin can add hosts through
WebMail.
Are you just wanting to add hosts to DNS, or IMail,
or both. If you want to do IMail and have a web server available on the
mail server, then you can use the command line utilities with some scripting to
allow him to add email hosts, but only as subdomains under his main
domain. We have an in-house system that allows customer to
manage DNS in this way, but could easily extend it to IMail as
well.
