Would you be willing to put Perl on a different server? You can put SpamAssassin on a nearby server (takes about 20 minutes using the Cook-Book installation) and have SpamAssassin Caller relay to/from the SA box from/to the IMail box. SpamAssassin is free.
BTW, understanding Perl enough to run SpamAssassin means simply remembering that it is Case Sensitive<g>.
