Did anyone else notice that the new "url-domain-bl.txt" file that was supplied in the last update is almost 1.4 meg in size? Has anyone looked in the file?
They are scanning AMTRACK, and LOTS of other legitimate domain names that have no legitimate problems associated with them. There's also a LOT of pure garbage entries in there - characters that cannot be displayed and other issues. Bruce - It is a new day and I am planning on implementing your suggestion of authentication. If I can ask your opinion, what would be the best way to do this? Should I send out instructions to our user-base that says "on such and such a day at 7am CST we will be implementing... Here are the instructions for the major email applications"? Then just make the switch and help out those who need it? Otherwise, if I attempt to contact everyone to assist them then someone will not be able to send until I get to them. Also, you mention that port 587 is already built in? Wouldn't I still need to change the port (Advanced tab) to use port 587? I think that would be a good thing to do while we are doing the authentication as well. Are there any downsides? Would this also take care of my particular problem of when I go from work to home and my ISP wants me to use their SMTP server (pain in the a** to change every night/morning)? Thanks again for your words of wisdom. And this should prevent the "false sending"? I can't believe that it is that wide open... <sigh> Todd 1. You have to use SMTP AUTH for ALL users. That means having NO MAIL RELAY checked in the SMTP security tab. It also means that everyone will have to go to the advanced settings on their e-mail client and check MY CLIENT REQUIRES AUTHENTICTION or they won't be able to send. But right now, you're letting anyone send anything they want from your server. 2. If you are using IMail 8.2, have the connect to port 587, it's already built in, and they will be able to connect to your server for authentication no matter where they are sending from. Their user names and passwords will be their validation for sending mail through the server. Hope this helps.
