Howdy All,
We are currently configured with IP Based
hosting for our 250 websites and are considering a move to Name based
hosting to save money ($2 per ip per month = $6000 per year). We
currently have unique PTR records set up for each IP corresponding to the
domain name of that IP.
Are there any email ramifications with configuring 200 sites hosted on 1 ip which only has 1 generic PTR record? (Looking to avoid 200 PTR records on that one IP... don't want to disclose all my domain names in one PTR lookup!). Our clients send via our Imail server and it acts as a relay for the web servers. I am particularly concerned about spam filters by AOL, et al. AOL claims that the PTR does not have to match the A record, but is this true for others too??? Am I setting myself up for trouble?
Thanks for the help!
Chris Anton
