This is very strange; this error message should never happen when opening a mailbox for the first time. This error message occurs only with traditional UNIX mailbox files.

It basically is saying that newly read contents of the file do not have a "From " header. But, it would not have opened the mailbox as traditional UNIX format if there wasn't a "From " header at the start of the file.

Have you made any modifications to the software, or acquired it from a third party?

Nope, compiled from scratch. This is 2004g, I believe.

Do you have an /etc/c-client.cf file, and if so what are its contents?

No.

Would you mind sending a copy of the file to me (not the list) as a MIME attachment so that I can analyze the file?

Sent separately.

Thanks, and sorry for the difficulties.

Not a problem at all. Help is appreciated.
