But on the copy of the mailbox where I had deleted all but two of the
messages using 2006b, I still get the same error message with 2006c

does not burp the mailbox.
This problem has now been fixed and is in the latest imap-2006c
development tarball. In the case where the truncated message was not
the first message in the mailbox, but was the first non-expunged
message, the fact that it had been truncated was missed and thus the
remedial action was not taken to clean it up.
I tested this on both of your demonstration mailboxes. Thank you for
the sample data which proved invaluable to reproducing and debugging the
problem.
I can confirm that this is now fixed on my machine as well.
However, I did find a new bug (or at the very least, new unexpected
behaviour) in this build:
It is apparently no longer possible to delete a mailbox that is
currently "open" in the same IMAP connection.
When I create a new, empty MIX format mailbox, Mail/tmp, start
Thunderbird, open that mailbox, then try to delete it, the mailbox is
not deleted. (Well, Thunderbird thinks it is - until the next time I
start it up, but that's a Thunderbird bug. The IMAP log contains an
error: "NO Can't lock mailbox for delete: Mail/tmp/")
This does OK work with 2006b.
