In order for inetlisn to start imapd properly, it must be running as SYSTEM (not as a user). The AT program is one way to make the process run as SYSTEM. Also make sure that the Windows Firewall allows incoming sessions to the port.

However, it needs to be emphasized that the Windows version of UW imapd is a tool for experienced programmers who are building a server product. It, along with inetlisn, is best seen as demonstration code and NOT as an end-user application. Among other things, you need to build an SMTP server and modify the UW source code to work with that SMTP server.

The UNIX version of UW imapd is for end-users.

If you are not a developer of Windows servers, the Windows version of UW imapd is not for you. Either run UW imapd on a UNIX system, or you should look at some other product that is designed to be a Windows IMAP server for end users.
