I am trying to compile imap on Debian Linux. I have downloaded both imap-2007 and the latest snapshot.

I use 'make ldb' to compile imap. During compilation, I noticed that imap is using 'Standard password authentication', instead of PAM. I have looked at the Makefile, and 'ldb' has a BUILDTYPE of 'lnp', which is 'Linux with Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM)'.

Why is standard password authentication being used instead of PAM?

If this question has been asked before, just point me in the right direction, and I'll take a look. I found the list archive, but did not see a way to search it.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Paul
