Nothing strange going on I'd say. Without knowing mix my informed guess is each individual file in the mix format more than likely has more data in it, besides the actual email(s). Which are part of that format's functionality. Likewise an mbx INBOX has extra data at the beginning of a file (you could call it a header I think?) which describes that file , its format, what is in it etc.

The email client reports the actual size of the actual email, it obviously ignores any extra fileformat specific data imap adds.
