This sounds like a mailbox which has expunged messages, but the space can not 
be reclaimed because more than one session has the mailbox open.  The same 
thing happens with mbx format as well.

Try killing all the sessions that have the mailbox open, then open it in just 
one session.

Another cause of size discrepancy, although probably not to the extent that you 
report, is the sort cache.  You can safely delete .mixsortcache files; they 
will just be regenerated the next time that a sort or thread is done.

Also, 2006k is old.  The current UW version is 2007b (or 2007c in Alpine 2.0 
with a minor bugfix in the SMTP client code).
