That's probably overkill. I would think that killing only those imapd
processes owned by the particular user, followed by any kind of
read/write opening of the mailbox should burp it.
I think even something as benign as a "mailutil check" would do the trick.
If you're concerned that the user might initiate another IMAP connection
in the very short time between you killing their existing processes and
doing the mailbox access, you could block the IMAP(S) port temporarily.
If you have no way of blocking the port then you could bring down the
interface or deny just that user login, but actually unplugging the
cable isn't necessary.
