I'm trying to use a script to migrate my users from mbox to maildir.

The script uses mailutil to sanity check the migration, specifically
using `mailutil check` to get a status report on the contents of the
mailbox.

However, when it tries to compare the source with the destination, it is
unable to report on the Maildir:

warning: Can't open /tmp/Maildir.mdwork.1240477927: not a selectable mailbox

I am not sure why this is happening. I'm not even sure that mailutil is
designed to work on Maildirs, but the small amount of documentation I
can find suggests it should and the script is written by a third party
and I can only assume they knew it did before using it to do so.

I've been through the source for imap-2007e to find the error message,
which is in osdep/unix/dummy.c but it doesn't seem to get any clearer.
I'm not quite sure what's going on when the failure occurs.

Someone else has come across this before and posted it to the Dovecot
mailing list, but never got a response:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg17490.html

Can anyone tell me anything about this at all? I've hit a complete brick
wall.
