Hi, I'm having to deal with a IMAP proxy called Perdition and it appears to advertise AUTH=PLAIN as a default capability, but in fact does not support any AUTH method at all, just LOGIN. Now, I'm getting told that "everyone else appears to handle falling back to LOGIN method", so I should do the same. I'm still pushing to get AUTH=PLAIN removed from the capa list, but in the meantime ...
Isn't it just configured with imap_capability in the perdition.conf? Something like imap_capability IMAP4 IMAP4REV1 LITERAL+ LOGIN should do what you want, I would think.
