Indeed it is, but it's not me in charge of that, and there's "tons of
clients using it, so we can't just change it". I'm hoping we'll get through
to that solution in the end.

Just thought I'd ask if anyone knew about an easy way to turn off AUTH in
the c-client that doesn't involve me having to change code. In other words,
by adding some "magic" option on the mailbox name argument to mail_open(),
similar to the ones controlling tls etc. I've experimented a bit with
'/user=' but that didn't do it.

My assumption at the moment is that I have to specifically disable the
authenticator, but that involves writing code to do it. Something I'd like
to avoid.

In the end it becomes a game of chicken, aka who changes their bit first.
Sigh.
