uw-imapd responds by * PREAUTH.. when connected. I know, xinetd should run as root and xinetd.conf should configure imapd as user = root.
BUT: I'm not allowed to login as root, and I don't have possibility to configure around (I tried all around: eg. replace original imapd by my compiled version -> mine starts to preauth). I stay on a virtual host (FreeBSD). My hosting provider is not motivited to change anything (eg. recompile imapd). Q: Could someone instruct me, where to change the source code to permanantely force LOGIN authentication? WHY: One of our customer want to manage mails by Lotus Notes Client. httpd need some tuning to handle this client properly (e.g. devault mail directory otherwise it displays also dot files).
