LIST Command query

Hi,   Is there any restriction on the IMAP List command creating a new folder, while replacing a top-level hierarchial folder. Does the top level folder get deleted and subsequently created, or is it not allowed. If it does get created, does the newly created folder have the same properties as the top-level folder?   For e.g. if the command is <tag> RENAME folder1 folder1/folder2 Is there any limitation from the RFC point of view?
