Ah, but do you support mbox format in a *legacy* environment, meaning that you have no way of preventing modifications to the mbox files that are not reflected in your index files, and only exclusive-access locking is possible to the mbox files? That's why most people do not do mbox format when writing a server. Too many nasty things can be done to them by legacy software.
