OK, I now I get it :) Yes, it would prevent client from caching the changes infinitely. Maybe that's a problem for clients that want to be completely up-to-date all the time, but not for those that only want to be sure the visible messages are up to date. Also like I said, it would have to resync old messages only when the log file is truncated which is much less than the current sync every time.
