We use different icons in the client for \Marked, \Unmarked and neither of those. Unfortunately most users seem to be confused as to what those really mean. Plus if a client is going to show those flags it needs to then poll the mailbox using LIST to keep an eye out for when the flags change so it can update its UI. We do not currently do automatic polling like that - the user has to manually refresh the list to see any state change.
