There are two philosophies in writing a client. One is to write a client which is fast and addresses the 98% case. The other is to attempt to achieve 100% (but inevitably be doomed to fall) short, without regard to performance. I know which type of client that I prefer to use. Clearly my preferences are not universally held, as there are many people who use the other kind. However, I am not alone in my preferences either. Use of \Marked, \Unmarked, and \Recent is a 98% solution that provides potentially substantial shortcuts. Most users do not run multiple simultaneous clients; of those who do, most understand the notion of "first one there wins." -- Mark -- http://staff.washington.edu/mrc Science does not emerge from voting, party politics, or public debate.
