suggestive name for a list appropriate for questions about error 
messages issued by the server.

Yes, I agree that a more descriptive error message than "login 
disabled" would be helpful. A Google search shows the tracks of quite 
a few puzzled users out there on this topic.

Mark, you're asking (rather pointedly, I think) whether I read the 
release notes, the BUILD documentation file, the SSLBUILD 
documentation file, and the IESG security requirements.

In fact, yes, I looked over those notes, and still could not be sure 
whether I should enable plaintext passwords. (Being a good and clean 
citizen, I didn't particularly want to be "non-compliant".)

Maybe there's a tutorial-level item of documentation missing?
