Hi,

I'm getting flack from my mail server clients because IMAP marked as
deleted and then expunges. Basically they don't want to have to manually
copy all the messages to a trash can folder. They like the way their POP
clients work, moving everything they delete into a deleted items folder
(trash).

I have two questions.

1. How have other server writers solved this, have they basically said
"tough, its how IMAP works" or something else.

2. If there is no consensus other than "tough" then is there a reason
why I could not add an operating mode to my server such that attempting
to delete messages moves them to a trash folder from which you then do a
delete/expunge. Would this break any clients? (its basically a daemon
then moves messages marked deleted and then expunges, all the clients
would get the correct unsolicited responses).

I realise that the protocol doesn't allow this but my focus here is that
if 99% of my customers want it then I need to find a way to supply it.

Regards Richard.
