They spent the big $$$ for Lyris and they don't want to assure maximum 
delivery success by having their DNS + SMTP credentials in highest order?

If you can get away with it, stick by your guns.  You'd be doing the Lyris 
admin a big favor if he would get his ducks in a row.  And it would be a 
lot easier for you if more MX admins insisted on compliance.
