The USPS knows the location of every post office, contract station and blue
box in the country. There's a database, but they keep it private
presumably to drive people to USPS.com. Some years ago a citizen lawsuit
resulted in a one-time database dump of the locations, and that's the basis
of most if not all the mailbox mapping applications. They are all getting
more and more stale over time.

Updated data would be a great prize in OSM, as we could adjust the
positions and enhance the positions. And, remove locations the USPS no
longer collects from.

What do people think of the potential for seeking a consensual database
sharing agreement with the USPS?
