Hi Colin,

Thanks for sharing the info on this project. I work at Esri and we have a
process for preparing this type of GIS buildings data so that it can be added
to OpenStreetMap. This involves steps such as transforming the data field
names and values into keys and values expected by the OSM community.

I download the SHP version of the data from the City and took a quick look.
The data does seem to have a useful set of field (e.g. code, address, name,
height) that could be used effectively with some data prep. We'll look more
closely but it appears that most of the ~540k buildings in the data are not
currently available in OSM so they would add good value. Given the explicit
permission from the City, we would be happy to take on this data prep work and
make it available to the OSM US community to add to OSM through editors like
JOSM and RapiD.

If there are no objections, we'll add this to our list and plan to share the
results of our data prep work with the community to review before making
available to add to OSM.

Cheers,
Deane

Subject: [Imports-us] Philly Building/Address import request

My intention on writing this is to allow someone to continue where I left off.
This was a project I attempted to undertake more than a year ago, but I
eventually gave up due to my lack of confidence in myself to handle this
properly (due to my lack of competence).

Here is the link to the dataset in question:

Below is the email I sent:

Here is the response that I've received:

I have not verified this, but the dataset was most-likely updated since I last
bothered to work on this, especially since in a later email she said that the
"open data version of the building footprints should be fixed by the beginning
of June."

Anyway, I would love to see someone else be able to finish what I started. The
licensing has been cleared. The data is available right there to download. All
that's left to do is for someone to download the data and upload it OSM!
