Note that tools exist to help with ongoing conflation/synchronization. Overwriting data entered by hand is a general OSM third rail topic. However, a script that creates a list of "things to check" or "mismatches" has a welcome home: for example it can become a "maproulette" job, where a human comes and checks out each issue.
