Yes, since I've managed most of the edits in the area myself for the past couple of years, and I know the other active OSM editor in the area who has encouraged me to import the buildings, there is no historical conflicts from the community. However, I might try to preserve some of the history of downtown buildings using the replace geometry plugin, since those buildings were drawn before I started mapping the area. I was just told about the plugin this morning.
